A Report of the Resource Center for Human Services at Hamilton College,
August 2000
The Resource Center for Human Services is a partnership between the Oneida County Funders Council and Hamilton College with a mission to promote innovative and effective provision of human services in this community. The Resource Center is committed to identifying community needs and evaluating existing resources for the betterment of funders, providers, and service recipients through an academic/public partnership that links college and community.
Students met with agency personnel from the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley, Family Services of the Mohawk Valley, and the Oneida County Department of Social Services as the agencies and organizations providing the services listed above. In addition, students had contact with state, county, and local law enforcement officials, Court officials, and many service providers in the course of conducting the program evaluation. We thank the community for their willingness to evaluate their services and for their generosity in giving time and access to the students to make the evaluation possible.
We make recommendations for change that lie both in individual organizations and the larger system of community response. A more recent perspective in public policy planning is to view domestic violence as a public health issue, and in that spirit, our recommendations for enlarging the system for change are crucial for more effective intervention, safer homes, and a community that takes care of its members.
